Master of His Domain

Brad graduated from Columbia University last Tuesday with a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design. Brad and I could not have been more ready or more happy for this momentous day. It represents the culmination of our determination to follow our dreams, our dedication to each other and his passion/my support of his “career calling”. We had a great representation of family for the event: Brad’s Mom, my Mom, my Dad and Stepmom, Beth, Ryan and Brandon! (and baby #2 in utero)

The general commencement address took place on the great lawn on campus, which would have been beautiful if not for the rain! Yes, it rained all day. My cute dress (which I bought last summer and hung all year) kept the tags on yet another day in favor of pinstriped pants and a cardigan. The rain did not stop the events of the day. The commencement continued without pause with only the addition of ponchos, trash bags and a multitude of umbrellas. We didn’t really get to see commencement, just hear the words of the University President and Dean’s of each college.

After the general ceremony, each college splits into smaller groups for graduation for the masters programs where actual names are called and diplomas are distributed. Brad’s ceremony was held in the University Chapel- gorgeous! He not only received his diploma, but was given two additional awards. He was given the prize for the best final project as well as the student’s Award of Excellence. The second is really cool because it means he is the most awesome student in his program. I was thrilled! I was clapping, hooting and cheering while Brad went up to the podium to receive each award, moms were crying, camera bulbs flashing, but he reports not hearing or noticing a thing. I knew he was fantastic, but every wife should think the same. I love having other people recognize his talent as well and I couldn’t be more proud of him!

We continued our celebration into the evening with a fantastic dinner at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park hosted by my Dad. We enjoyed great food and a one-of-a-kind NYC view. It was still rainy late into the evening, but we did our best not to let it dampen our spirits (pun intended). The view out on to the lake was still magnificent with clouds ensconcing the skyscrapers in the background. I am so glad that everyone was able to make it to New York for the event and in support of Brad. We were very blessed to have our family with us last weekend and couldn’t love them more.

P.S. anyone with  me on the Seinfeld reference in the title?
