My 29th Year

This weekend was my birthday weekend. Brad wont buy into the birthday week philosophy, so a birthday weekend is what I get. I’m not sure what happens yet when my birthday falls on a Wednesday… I guess I should be glad that next year it’s still within the weekend time frame (Sunday). I had an A+ birthday weekend and a great start to my 29th year. Here are the highlights:

Friday inaugurated the Birthday celebrations with presents from my family and flowers from my thoughtful fellow marketers. I met Brad at a great little restaurant called Kingswood in the West Village for a tasty meal. We thought it was very fitting for the Kingsley’s to be dining at Kingswood.

Saturday, my actual birthday, started with a bear hug and a pastry followed  by calls from family members, several of whom sang to me over the phone. I finished a book, got a manicure and chair massage, and ate a late lunch at Polpette with Brad. For my birthday present, Brad got us tickets to see Handel’s Messiah at Lincoln Center. It was ah-mazing.

Most people don’t know this, but I love champagne. What could be more of a symbol of something celebratory and special? On my 16th birthday I wanted to have a glass of champagne more than anything in the world. 16 seemed so amazingly monumental to me and it seemed appropriate in my head to pop open a little bubbly to mark the milestone. After some persuasion and a little arm twisting, Mom & Rick obliged and we all toasted champagne with my birthday cake. It was my first taste of alcohol and the bubbles tickled my nose and throat. I felt like the most special person in the whole universe. And then about half way through the glass I decided that was probably enough for me! So at 29 the hubster and I toasted champagne on the deck of the performance hall and I managed to finish the glass.

Sunday was technically the close of my birthday weekend and so I chose to spend it at St. Thomas Episcopal Church for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. This church has amazing music every week so the service focused on highlighting the music was a treat. The place was packed and the Christmas decorations were really well done. I could go to this church everyday and not get tired of it. Everything about it is breathtaking.

And thus ends the birthday weekend. We’re back at home eating leftovers for lunch and wearing our comfies. Its about time to settle in for a little nap and then start the preparations for our upcoming Christmas Extravaganza. Thank you to everyone who remembered and helped celebrate my birthday. I am excited to see you all soon.

  1. Correction: My 16th Birthday wasn’t the first time I had alcohol. It was the first time I knowingly had alcohol. As I think back, I remember when I was nine or ten taking a swig of my Dad’s G&T thinking it was a small glass of water. Boy did I get a surprise!

  2. glad you had a good bday. i am remembering fondly our the last time we celebrated your birthday together. i can’t beleive it’s been a year already. time flies. enjoy the 29th!

  3. Brad gets a gold star for choosing to go to the Messiah–wowsy–I am envious but so happy that you could do that together. Did the audience get to sing along with the Hallelujah chorus? I can’t ever keep silent when that is song.

  4. It just keeps getting better My favorite drink….wait for it….wait for it… champagne! I LOVE it!! the bubbles! the fruitiness! The Loveliness!
